Management
education has come a long way in India. With a modest
beginning in early sixties of a handful management
institutes, there are now well over two thousand institutes
in the country. It is a case of from acute shortage to
abundant supply of b-schools in India. This development
has opened up many unforeseen educational opportunities
for young men and women in the country. If one wants to
get the much coveted "MBA", he/she can surely find a
b-school to fulfill his/her dream. Moreover, it is no
longer just one-size-fit-all vanilla type MBA. The b-schools
have developed a huge variety of products which compete
with traditional MBA.
Undoubtedly not all is good with the scene in management
education, partially due to unplanned growth due to greed of
b-school promoters, and partly due to arbitrary government
policies. Vast number of b-schools today offer programs
that are of inferior quality. They lack basic resources
such as qualified faculty. The focus often is on
maximizing ROI, then on delivering quality education.
Institutions with limited resources have been compelled to
close down. The government policies keep changing causing
migraine to b-school promoters. This situation has
caused turbulence in the system and has created
uncertainties in the management education. Where
management education is heading is a million dollar
question. Therefore the theme of AIMS-9 is, "Managing
Turbulence and Uncertainties in Management Education:
New Landscapes and Roadmaps."
AIMS-9 will provide
opportunity to discuss how b-schools and other
stakeholders are responding to the turbulence and
uncertainties in management education. Innovations in
curriculum; research in the various traditional subjects
or disciplines of management education which has
implications for future teaching; research into emerging
areas like entrepreneurship, corporate governance,
technology management, telecom management, energy,
operations, applications of information technology,
strategy, and globalization; new explorations in
pedagogy; reflections on the society-corporate
sector-management school triangle; innovations in the
world of practice that have educational implications;
role of statutory bodies, national and
international collaborations; and similar areas, are all appropriate themes that
scholars may fruitfully explore.
The purpose of the conference is to
provide a forum that stimulates discussion on the
conference theme and on topics related to the theme. The
conference will also provide opportunities for
networking and collaboration amongst scholars from
academia, industry and government. In addition to papers
on the conference theme and the emerging fields noted
above, scholars may submit papers on any aspect of the
traditional disciplines of management like accounting,
marketing, finance, OB, HRM, MIS,
entrepreneurship,
quantitative
methods, operations, economics, etc. |
